Oral Thrush

Oral thrush is a fungal (candida) infection in the mouth. It's more common in babies and older adults, in people who wear dentures, after a course of antibiotics, or when the immune system is run down.

Common symptoms

• White patches in the mouth that may rub off, leaving sore red areas
• Soreness or discomfort
• An unpleasant taste or reduced sense of taste

We can advise on antifungal treatment and look at any contributing factors with you — for example denture hygiene or inhaler technique, which can both play a part.

When to seek further advice
Please speak to your GP if it doesn't clear with treatment, keeps returning, makes swallowing difficult, or if a baby is affected and not feeding well.
