Impetigo

Impetigo is a common and contagious bacterial skin infection. It's most often seen in children but can affect anyone.

Common symptoms

• Red sores or blisters that quickly burst
• Golden-brown crusty patches, often around the nose and mouth
• Itching around the affected area

Our pharmacist can assess the affected skin and advise on appropriate treatment, along with simple steps to help prevent it spreading to others or to other parts of the body.

When to seek further advice
Please see your GP if the infection is widespread, isn't improving, keeps coming back, or if you feel generally unwell. To reduce spread, stay off school or work until the sores have crusted over or treatment has been underway for the recommended time.
